Origin
Wing Chun, as opposed to our style WingChun, is the general spelling. It means "always spring" or "praise spring" and is a style of Chinese kung fu. Kung fu means a skill achieved through hard work and is a general term for all of the many different Chinese martial arts. Wing Chun was developed sometime during the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty. The true history of Wing Chun cannot be accurately traced as it was an underground style, and its teachings were passed down orally. Also, much knowledge of Chinese martial arts in general was lost throughout bloody periods of China's history and from the more recent Chinese Cultural Revolution.
There were various substyles of Wing Chun that developed over time. Many of them have different stories of Wing Chun's origin. These other styles also vary in concepts, techniques, and traditions. Our WingChun style focuses on those aspects that apply to modern self-defense.
